Château Villars
The wines of Château Villars owe their personality to soils of clay and limestone. While the clay lends them their power and depth, the limestone does a great job of regulating the water supply available to the vine.
This is our "Grand Vin", our flagship wine, matured 100 percent in French oak barrels. 20 hectares of our vineyards, comprising our estate’s oldest vines, are dedicated to its production.
In the nose, Château Villars shows great freshness, floral or fruity depending on the year, and a touch of spices. On the palate it unfolds into powerfully crafted, very elegant tannins. This wine gains in complexity as it ages and can be kept in the cellar for 10 to 20 years depending on the vintage.
Château Moulin Haut Villars
With Château Villars, we offer a flagship wine made according to the principles of a "Grand Cru". Then there is Château Malvat, an everyday companion characterised above all by its roundness.
However, as we have been vintners in Fronsac for seven generations, our range cannot be complete without a wine in the great classic style of our appellation.
9,65 hectares are therefore exclusively reserved for Château Moulin Haut Villars.
Two different terroirs are to be found here: the classic combination of clay and limestone that lends the wine its power, as well as the less-known clay and silt, a lighter, more "vivacious" type of soil.
Moulin Haut Villars is a powerful wine that needs three to six years to fully express itself, depending on the vintage.
Aged entirely in barriques, without any influence of new oak, it is a full-bodied, rich, dense wine that expresses beautifully the personality of its hilly terroir
Château Malvat
The concept of a "Grand Vin", a flagship wine, calls for rigorous grape selection in order to create the perfect blend.
The production of a Second Wine is therefore its natural extension.
With Château Malvat we try to show a different side of Fronsac: 100 percent Merlot make this wine a wonderfully round and smooth companion for your day-to-day meals.
This is not a Sunday wine, but a wine to be enjoyed on all the other days of the week, any time of the year.
Le Rosé du Château Villars
A corkscrew, a patio, good wine glasses and friends – these are the secrets to enjoying the charms of this rosé wine made of 100 percent Merlot.
Motivated above all by the selfish desire to drink a crisp and pleasant wine at our own dinner table, we have been making this Bordeaux Rosé since 1983. It is available only in favourable years and in very limited quantities.
Very aromatic with notes of red fruit (strawberry, raspberry), it is at once fruity, fresh and smooth on the palate. While making a great aperitif, it is also an ideal companion for a summer meal, be it salad, pasta or barbecue. But it is doubtlessly best with pizza, especially the ones of Cristian Onofaro, authentic Genoese pizzaiolo at the Pizzeria Le Rital in Galgon, a stone’s throw from Château Villars.
According to our sons David, Benjamin and Félix, his pizzas are just as good as those at the Pizzeria Il Gattopardo in Alcamo, Sicily – which means simply the best!
Enjoy this rosé with friends at a temperature of 9 to 12 °C.
